Meralco launches Maliwanag ang Pasko

Last November 25, I was privileged to witness as Meralco launches its Liwanag Park to the public for the first time, where families can enjoy a light show, Christmas Village, night bazaar, electric rides and more plus introducing Meralco’s Ambassador of Light, Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner Up Ms. Shamcey Supsup.

Begun in 2006, the Maliwanag ang Pasko serves as one of Meralco’s channels for supporting various charities and encouraging customers to participate by lighting up homes every Christmas Season.

Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer and President of One Meralco Foundation Jeffrey Tarayao said, “In line with this year’s theme of love and light, Meralco, through One Meralco Foundation will be able to support at least 1,000 children to go to school in the coming year. The public, in turn, can express their support with Meralco in its desire to not only light up the season, but to also help these children attain a better future.” To do this, they may simply send in a photo of their homes decked out n holiday lights with a caption to describe how they are making Christmas brighter for their families this year. They can e-mail it together with their contact details until December 20 to

Tarayao, concluded “Through the Maliwanag ang Pasko program, it is our desire to take an active role in sharing warmth and hope to every Filipino family and engage them to contribute to a better future for unprivileged children. By lighting up our homes together, we carry the light of Jesus, whom we are celebrating this season, to many Filipino children in need”

Present also during the launch were Philippine Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Manuel M. Lopez and Meralco’s CEO, Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan.
